The Newport Flower Show, founded in 1996 is held at the Rosecliff Mansion, a Gilded Age Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island. This flower show has become a celebrated event to kick off the summer in Newport. I was excited to attend for the first time. I couldn’t wait to be inspired by the spectacular artistry and technique that would be on display.
This yearly event showcases floral and gardening arts. It includes floral arrangements and horticulture. There are competitions in photography, design, as well as a children’s division. There are also educational opportunities, like lectures and demonstrations by garden designers and experts.
The show adopts a specific theme each year. Past themes include “Jade: Eastern Obsessions,” “American Beauty – Timeless Style,” “The Grand Tour,” and “At Home”. This year’s show, “A Floral Fair,” celebrated two themes. One honored the Theresa Fair Oelrichs, the mansion’s original owner. Floral Design and Botanical Arts Exhibitors drew inspiration from her 1913 fairy tale-themed dinner, creating stunning and imaginative arrangements.

The second theme showcased arrangements reminiscent of a cheerful summer county fair.
The event continued outdoors on the rear terrace and lawn, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

The Horticultural Division and Garden Display brought the themes to life with competitions of delightful plants, vibrant cut flowers, and breathtaking displays crafted by skilled amateur gardeners and local garden clubs. A marketplace was also on hand that showcased high-end boutiques and garden elements.

The proceeds from the Newport Flower Show benefit the Preservation Society of Newport County. These funds are used to maintain and preserve the historic mansions and gardens in Newport.
